PREVIEW: Major Industry Gathering At WealthMatters Conference On 2 October

The start of October will see wealth management industry figures gather to debate everything from the global economic outlook to the benefits and downsides of technology at the WealthMatters conference in London.

Held at the America Square Conference Centre, 17 Crosswall – near the capital’s renowned Tower of London – the 2 October conference features a mix of panel debates and breakout sessions. Sponsors for the event are Equipos; Finantix; Vermilion and Advanced 365; Watson Consultancy, BRT, and MSCI, the market index business.

Previous WealthMatters conferences – such as an event held in London April – have drawn large audiences and been an ideal opportunity for delegates and panellists to swap ideas, network and catch up on latest thinking about an industry facing a range of economic and regulatory challenges. But it is also an industry with considerable opportunities in front of it, and the conference is designed to provide a platform in which the best ideas on how to grow can be showcased.

Speakers include Bill O’Neill, who is head of chief investment office wealth management research in the UK for UBS Wealth Management; Sebastian Dovey, managing partner at Scorpio Partnership; Kevin Gardiner, managing director and chief investment officer for Europe at Barclays’ wealth and investment management arm; Toby Nagle, head of multi-asset investing at Threadneedle; Wendy Spires, a consultant at Bulletin, a public relations firm for wealth and asset managers, and the former head of research, and deputy group editor, at ClearView Financial Media (the publisher of this website).

Other speakers include Damian Bryan, co-founder and chief architect of Equipos, the wealth technology firm; Lisa Worley, global head of marketing at Barclays’ wealth and investment management business; Jonathan Wilson, of EMEA, at Cordium, the regulatory consultancy; Mark Spiers, head of wealth management at Bovill, a risk and regulatory consultancy firm; and Ian Cornwall, director of regulation at the Association of Private Client Investment Managers and Stockbrokers (APCIMS). Managing director and global head of new product research, Dimitris Melas, is also speaking at the event. 

As if that were not enough, noted wealth management industry luminaries speaking and moderating some of the sessions include Bruce Weatherill, who is chairman of ClearView as well as a non-executive director of Weatherill Consulting, JDX, ComPeer and Fidelity Holdings; William Drake, co-founder of Lord North Street, the private investment office; Andrew Fisher, chief executive of Towry, the wealth management firm; Tim May, CEO of APCIMS, and Simon New, a director at EY (formerly known as Ernst & Young).

And last but not least, other panels feature David Stevenson, the columnist who goes under the tag of Adventure Investor; Simon Smith, founder of ETF Strategy; Steven Goldin, managing partner of  Parala Capital and Anthony Christodoulou, founder of WorldTrack. On a technology panel, speakers include Steve Dyson, founding director of Investment & Wealth Management Consultants and Roy Wood, co-founder and managing director of Advanced365.
